I write a marketing newsletter and my content was fairly well-received in my country (Nigeria) but it felt like there was something missing to make it even better.
I thought of the top marketing newsletters I loved and realized a bunch of them did in-depth case studies. And then, I realized no one was writing those kinds of case studies about Nigerian/African startups. I'd also written a previous issue that was almost a mini-case study and that issue had performed really well.
So the gap became clear to me and I decided to test it out fully.
I wrote the first case study and in less than 24 hours, it became my top-performing issue at the time. Great open rates, 50% more views, and a lot of engagement. More than that, it got a lot of shares. I saw people discussing it in communities and sharing it with others.
So, I added the case study format into my newsletter rotation and I now (try to) publish one case study per month. I've published 4 so far, and they've all performed better than regular issues across all metrics.

I noticed that we were never positioned as industry experts in the fields we were pitching our product to. While it makes sense for these decision-makers, all prospects do their own individual research. When potential partners research your product and see no application of it in their niche - their confidence drops.
I developed a strong content plan that allowed us to fill the gaps in every vertical we tackle. I'm calling it trickle-down content. The goal is to appear as an expert in every content pillar of prospects lives. This includes on Google, at trade shows, on social media, and on YouTube.
For each niche or new partner we pitch to, I ensure we have a confidence-driving trend report chock full of data. From there, I ensure we have 3 large publications that cover a small section of that report in order to drive Google search traffic around the topic tied to our name. From there - fluff blogs, allowing us to be more fun and interview our own staff for their thoughts and drive social traffic.
Finally, I develop a video/photo content plan that allows us to show visually stunning examples of ourselves in the niche. High quality, commercial-grade.
This allows us to exist everywhere in every topic we choose.
